Baltimore, MD

I met this woman leaving my office. Turns out she works for the same company. Discussing weather brought up Pittsburgh. From there it was a short leap to Monroeville, where I grew up. As did she. What a coincidence!
We had that whole conversation before I even noticed her stylish bag.

Chicago,IL

Willi, formerly of Uniontown, now living just south of Cinnicinatti, knows how to dress on the road. He's proud of raising the next gemeration of Steeler fans and excited about going to this week's big game against the Bengals.

NYTimes Online 9/22

This protest took place in PGH and ended up on the home page of NYTimes. After I finishede laughing, I knew I had to post it. In PGH, even the protest signs are black and gold!

Baltimore Waterfront

From the look of the rest of the truck, this guy is working construction on one of the new highrises near Fells Point. He also had a terrible towel, but the hat was easier to see

From deep inside of Buffalo Bills country comes this uplifting license plate.

Middle of Nowhere Georgia

Driving from Athens GA to the Atlanta airport. Still not far out of Athen I see this Georgia pick up pass us. And there's that familar logo reminding me that I'm never far from Pittsburgh.

Fells Point, MD

I met this fan near Fells Point in Baltimore. He's a long time fan from DC. How did he get hooked on the Steelers? When he went to college at South Carolina State in Orangeburg SC there was talented player there by the name of Donnie Shell.

Front Page Wash Post

I guess the local fans don't buy enough tickets. So the team sells them to brokers. Letting only the best kind of riff raff in...Steeler fans!

Once again, we make our mark!

Downtown Baltimore

I'm a little late. Caught this big fish on the way to work Friday 8/14...the day after our ore-season defeat of the Cardinals.

Palamalu in Boston!

Been a while since I posted a sighting. There are simply too many in my DC/Baltimore corridor. But, I'm on vacation in Boston now. And this morning, a family walked past us at a historic site. The son, about 10-iss, was wearing a Palamalu tee-shirt. I said out loud, Palamalu! and the kid looked around with a big smile. I gave a thumbs up as we went on our way and they on there's.

Odd Bits - More from Whale Watching

The Naturalist on this trip tells us that they ID whales from the markings on their tales. Ursa, in front, and Terrace, further away, are hunting together. Ursa's tale shows signs of an Orca attack. Look for scratch mark, like striations, near the center on the right hand tale fin.

Odd Bit -Whale Watching at Stellwagen Bank

Ballene whale comes up for dinner off the New England coast. Took over 200 pictures on this trip. Look for more at my flickr site, after Vicki and I return from vacation.

Is damn tempting to not return!

Vacation is Hard Work

Vacation is Hard Work Here’s my view off the back porch of friends John and Kayla’s Westport, MA home.

I did have to wait for the teenagers to quit arguing over who’s turn was next, but it was worth the wait.

Odd Bit-Jersey Turnpike

So, I admit we left later than we planned. But we also didn't really think this out going to NY City on a Sunday means being in going home from the beach traffic. A 4 hour trip is looking like it will be every inch of 7 and we're only 5 into it at this point.

Am a little late posting this. Was a bigt spot in the morning commute.

Parking Close up

See below.

Parking at the mall, MD

We truly didn't notice this when we parked, but love it for it's subtlty.

Montgomery Mall, MD

I overhear a guy saying "when you go you have to eat a Primanti Brother" and turn to see a. Bright yellow new looking Willie Stargell shirt. Being worn, of course by a stylish ex-burgher with his family. As you know I mostly catch the steeler logos.
Nice change.

Pittsburgh takes Tehran!

When you're a world power, you sometimes have to take a stand. Like this guy did. Representiing Pittsburgh in the land of the Ayatollahs.

Odd bit - Silver Docs

It's a Thursday night. The only movies are documentaries and this is the scene outside the Silver Theater in Silver Sping MD. The annual Silver Docs fest is one of the top docs fests going!

Downtown Bethesda MD

Daughter dearest is home from school, back at her photo store job, and on the look out for like minded people. And she finds one parked across the street from her store. Actually from a week ago.

United Airlines, LAX

Row 12, window seat A. No way to say hello on this return trip to DC, but once again the Pittsburgh influence is shown far from the shores of the Mon. This dapper man is sporting a very new looking baseball cap with the Steeler logo on a the classic black field and this year's Superbowl logo on the side.

Meanwhile, I'm missing game 2 of Pens v Canes.

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Santa Monica CA

Out here on the left coast on business one day after the Pens beat the Canes in game 1 on their division series. Walking along the Third Promenade and what do I see but a proudly worn penguins shirt. Too dark for phone camera, but I'm not letting that stop me.

Furthest sighting to date

Columbia, SC

Daughter dearest caught this Tennessee Steeler fan driving around near Columbia SC. We just can't keep still!

Rochester, NY

It's a beautiful day in Rochester NY as the sky in this SUV window demonstrates. And a great place for a Steelers fan, as friend Shell illustrates with this pic. I think this is now the northern most sighting we've had. Too bad Shell wasn't on the look out last year in Scotsland!

Ft Worth Stockyards

Ryan lives near Ft. Worth, but is originally from Wisconsin. He proudly notes that has never been a Packers fan. At a young age he was introduced to the Steelers, by dad and uncles, when they were playing the cowboys in a Super-bowl. He's been a Steelers fan ever since.
In sunny Texas, no less.

SUNY - Fredonia

No, not the country in the Marx Brothers movie. This is in "up state" NY. I have a geographical dispute with NY city folk who call west "up state" but that's another issue.

Friend Shell sends me this pic of a fraternity bud who prefers the more colorful Pirates hat. Don't tell Shell's mom and dad what she's really doing in class.

BWI Airport - A Month Late!

When I started posting these pics I was a little shy about approaching people. My wife had me make cards to give people I took pics of. Not long after, I met a guy with THE best Steelers jacket. 5 SuperBowl patches and looking to add Number 6.
Of course, I immediately forget to post the pic! Good thing I gave him a card.
Happy Six-Burgh, Jeremy.

Madison, VA

I've been seeing Steelers all day. Near Tysons Corner, not far past Mannassas, and at no time was I able to take a pic. Then I walk into this gas station, Sheetz I think, in Madison Va and they have a whole rack of Steeler magazines. Go figure!

Baltimore Office

On the Friday before the Superbowl. My neighbor shows her excellent fashion sense with both a Terrible Towel and the classic Bettis the Bus Jersey.

Ohio University - Athens, Ohio

Jay, RTV student and DJ at college web station ACRN is ready for Superbowl ring #6. Hailing from Youngstown, Ohio, Jay broke ranks with his browns loving family when he went with the winners from Pittsburgh. Bonus for me, he took time to show me where my college radio station moved to on campus.
Thanks Jay.

Athens, Ohio

In the "can't get them all" dept - I am working in Athens, Ohio - where I went to college - and spot a Steelers shirt. But the guy's across the street going the other way. So far, I've resisted posting w/o a pic, I had to make an exception this time.

Columbus Ohio - Airport

As I a child I got a laugh out of an ad for bagels that said "you don't have to be jewish to enjoy bagels". The more people I meet with Steeler clothes, the more that applies to Pittsburgh. Here's another proud fan, a native of Columbus Ohio, who's a long time steeler fan. And his brother is a browns fan. Family reunions are a blast for them!

More Inauguration sightings on the Mall

Our friend Em grabbed this pic for us. She was about a football field closer to the swearing in. This is truly a Steelers Nation.

After the Inauguration

No matter what size the crowd, as you see in this Inauguration series, Pittsburgh pride is strong! This young man came up from South Carolina for the big event.

Washington DC - We Are One Day

On the Mall the Sunday before Inauguration. Tens of thousands of people crowded on the lawn below the Washington Memorial. Who would I meet here, but a woman from Penn Hills...the borough next to where I grew up!

Orange "you glad for change" cola

I don't know about your neighborhood, but living near DC. I've seen, and resisted, nearly every conceivable Obama product imaginable. From Obama face cakes and cookies to tees, hats, key fobs, wheel covers, and cat pan liners, if someone can print on it you'll find it for sell with a pic of Obama or his family. And I've scoffed, sometimes loudly, at all of them...until now. When I came around the corner in the grocery store and saw this, I knew I was hooked. For one, it's made by my favorite soda company. For another, I loves me a good orange soda. (I do, I do, I doooooo!)

Me - Baltimore Office Ravens Day

I have generally focused on other people here, figuring that you get to "hear" me. And that you're happier that way. But, below, I've been called out. How did I handle the pressure of walking into a den a Ravens? First off, I wore my Steeler tie over a "gold" shirt on Monday. Today, I went with the golf shirt. but the piece d'resistance was the 1 inch steelr logos I scattered around the office. By printers, on book shelves, they'll be finding them for months!

Office lunch room - Baltimore

Haven't seen this guy in the lunch room much, but in this week before we play the Ravens he was a regular. Just sending a subtle message to all his co-workers...this sunday will be a Football Day in Pittsburgh!

More Office - Downtown Baltimore

Christian is from the eastern side of PA, but his father was a Steelers fan and broght him up right! Here he pays homage ti one of one greatest linebacker from the 70s dynasty, Jack Lambert.
This picture, and Juan's, was taken on the office's "wear purple day" the Friday before we play the Ravens!

Office - Downtown Baltimore

Juan arrived in the US in 1977 and the first American football game he watched was Steelers v Cowboys in the Super Bowl. He was so impressed with "Swann Flying around" that he picked the Steelers to win. And they did. And he's been a fan ever since.

Las Vegas - CES

What's the well dressed attendee of this year's Consumer Electronic Show wearing? Their striking Steeler's jacket, of course. This dapper journalist, hailing from Pomona City, CA took a minute to proudly display his fine outer wear. On this upcoming playoff sunday he plans to be dressed Steelers style from hat to socks!

My Neighborhood - MD

What looks better against a shiny black sports car finish than a Steelers license plate? Found this compatriot right in my own neighbor while walking the dog.
